Welcome back everyone! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in London. Christmas in London really is magical. Almost as soon as the temperature drops and the clocks go back, the city is transformed into a wintry wonderland, glittering with Christmas lights and creatively decorated trees, with winter pop-ups and Christmas markets around every corner.

Here is my favourite list of things to do in London during December month:

Best Places for Christmas lights in London

1. Oxford Street

Oxford Street Christmas Lights

If you’re looking for London’s main lighting attractions this winter, it’d be well worth popping along to Oxford Street. The busy shopping thoroughfare’s display is brand new for this year, consisting mainly of nice, calming stars, which make a lovely impact in the night sky.

2. Carnaby Street

Carnaby Christmas Lights

Carnaby Street’s Christmas lights are usually pretty damn special. This year’s iteration looks to continue that trend. Not only will they make the shopping street look extremely festive, the new installations are created to raise awareness for Choose Love, a shop set up by the charity Help Refugees, that supports (and raises money for) refugees all over the world.

3. Kenwood

Christmas at Kenwood

Kenwood House will be installing a new Christmas light trail at its stately location on Hampstead Heath starting November 26 and running all the way through until January 9. According to the organisers, the trail will be a ‘multi-sensory mix of light, fire and sound’, with installations, a ‘light avenue’, laser garden and a banging sculpture by Hannelora Johansson. At the end of the trail, there’ll be craft stalls, street food and most importantly, a fully licensed bar selling hot booze. If anywhere in London can make you feel Christmassy, it’s Hampstead Heath.

Best places for Ice Skating in London

1. Natural History Museum

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

A staple of London’s winter activities scene returns to us from October – but it’ll be your last time to enjoy its icy charms. The ice rink at the Natural History Museum will take up residence at the South Kensington venue for a final season this year before it gets transformed into a new urban garden.

2. Somerset House

Skate at Somerset House

What’s a London Christmas, without Somerset House’s iconic ice rink? Skate around the grand neoclassical courtyard on this huge, 900-square-metre outdoor rink, with a 40-foot Christmas tree.

Hope you find this information useful!

From all the small team at the Alhambra Hotel … wishes of a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

See you all in 2022…
